We have an exclusive photo of Intimate Apparel, a new opera based on Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage's 2003 drama. The piece, which features music by Ricky Ian Gordon, a libretto by Nottage and direction by Bartlett Sher, explores the life of a young African-American woman who travels to New York City in 1905 to pursue her dreams. Esther, a lonely seamstress who makes a living sewing gorgeous ladies' undergarments, falls into a letter-writing romance with George, a mysterious suitor who is working on the Panama Canal. Take a look at this passionate portrait of Kearstin Piper Brown as Esther and Justin Austin as George. Intimate Apparel begins performances on February 27 and runs until May 3 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. If you like powerful, emotional stories, you simply cannot miss this new opera!
